Here's our recommendations on how we use them ourselves, which should give you some guidance in choosing the right product. If you have any questions please feel free to drop us an email at info@sheabliss.co.uk
Whipped Shea Butter
Whipped Shea Butter is great for general moisturising all over the body, and we use it daily on our son as part of his "post bath" routine. The Shea Butter melts on contact with the skin and once massaged in there is no greasy residue.
Shea & Cocoa Lotion Bars
If your child has itchy areas of skin, we would recommend the Shea & Cocoa Butter Lotion Bar. It’s fantastic as a massage medium. The Shea butter sinks right in and the cocoa butter forms a sort of barrier, which can prevent itchiness - again, once this has sunk in (doesn't take long), there is no greasiness behind. It's easy to apply as its bar format means that it is only applied where you want it to, and you don't get it over your hands.
Just Shea
On really bad areas or on nappy rash, cradle cap and so on, we recommend Just Shea. This has the highest concentration of Shea Butter (98%) and is therefore the most nourishing and moisturising of our products.
Shea & Cocoa Butter Bath Melts
If you frequently used off the shelf products to use in your child's bath to help their dry skin, you can simply pop one of the bath melts in the bath. This may eliminate the need to moisturise afterwards. As their bath water won't be as hot as an adults, you may find that you or your child can rub the bath melt over themselves, and they enjoy watching it melt. You will have to wash the bath out afterwards, as it will be slippery. To avoid having to moisturise, just pat dry with a towel.
Shea Botty Balm
At the first sign of nappy rash, apply a small amount to the affected areas. You do not need to use the Botty Balm at every nappy change. You may also find it useful for older children if they have chaffing, eczema patches and so on as the oils used are all anti-inflammatory and calming. If you suffer from eczema, you can also use it, and some customers have used it on spots too!
Shea Butter Soaps
You can use any of our Shea Butter soaps on your children - we do. Our son physically tries to stop me if someone orders Chunky Monkey Business! He loves it that much. The soaps are so kind to your skin, and are suitable for all of the family. If your child has eczema, you can also use them. You may want to use the Plain, unscented soap, or the Chickweed & Evening Primrose soap, but we've used all of the soaps on our son without a reaction. If in any doubt, choose the unscented. Some new fragrances will be coming soon, as well as a Redbush Shea Butter soap. Redbush tea (Rooibos) is renowned for helping eczema and other dry skin conditions.
What about you? What can you use?
As a mother, you can use anything. If you are pregnant or breast feeding, then check which essential oils are safe for you to use.
If you're pregnant, the only scent that we recommend not using is Grapefruit Lemon & Mint, as it contains Peppermint Essential Oil, and this is advised against during pregnancy. Just Shea for Feet also contains this essential oil.
We have just sourced a range of Allergen free fragrances for you to enjoy, even if you have sensitive skin. Find out more on our Essential Oils & Fragrances page.
